About Shilpa Shah
Shilpa qualified from the University of Birmingham in 2010. She completed several years of Hospital training posts to broaden her experience across a range of sub specialties. Her passion for sedation developed during her DF2 training in 2012 when completing a 6 month rotation in sedation dentistry across paediatrics, Oral surgery and Special Care Dentistry, combined with several Maf Fax training posts. She gained significant clinical experience in providing a range of sedation techniques for children and adults as well as exposure to treating patients under GA. She achieved her membership to the joint dental faculties, MJDF, in 2012.
Since 2013, she has been working at Manchester Dental Hospital as a Speciality Dentist within the Restorative department treating anxious patients and those with complex needs, as well as training newly qualified dentists in the provision of conscious sedation. In 2015 she completed a Masters programme in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics at the University of Manchester.
During this time Shilpa was established in private practice and often got asked to provide conscious sedation for her Specialist peers. Seeing a clear need for better access to conscious sedation in primary care she established “Dental Sedation Solutions”, a mobile sedation service for dentists with a vision of improving access to dental anxiety management outside of the NHS. The service is now one of the leading providers of peripatetic sedation services in the North West, catering for adults and children through basic and advanced sedation. Accepting referrals for a wide range of services but also working mobile with a team of anaesthetists they travel to dentists and provide advanced level peripatetic sedation particularly for complex implant procedures.
Shilpa is a strong advocate of safe sedation practice and compliance with standards, with a wealth of experience setting up sedation services in over 60 practices. She regularly lectures on conscious sedation and keeps abreast of the latest guidelines and policy to ensure delivery of a high standard of care across the team.
In 2015 she was invited to speak at the SAAD symposium about her peripatetic sedation service and sat on the council from 2017 to 2023. In 2023 Shilpa was appointed to the ADAS council and plays an active role in the day to day runnings of the Society.
In her limited spare time Shilpa loves to travel and is an advanced PADI and Nitrox scuba diver with over 150 dives across the globe.
